Default fuel leaking from behind harmonic balancer

Hey guys, over the weekend, I replaced my injectors and glow plugs using 2500HeavyDuty (Danny) awesome write up on the subject. All went very smoothly. I have driven it 20 miles or so since the work.

I just walked out of a bank and notice quite a bit of fuel dripping from what looks like behind the harmonic balancer. I popped the hood checked around the fuel filter, computer and followed the lines to the quick connect couplers of the 2 fuel lines near drivers side firewall. Everything looks dry.

The truck has been sitting with key out of ignition and the fuel continues to drip again looks like from behind the balancer. Its dripping about a drip a second.

Anyone have any ideas of what could be causing the drips? I am kind of new to this motor.

Thanks in advance for your ideas.

No edit button? Oh I ran out of time for the edit button, wow that's a fast one.

I should add that it drips the same with motor running or not. I did drive it home from the bank, ran fine.

check your high pressure lines on the fuel rails and coming out of the CP3 i had mine do the same was the high pressure line coming outta the CP3 put a 19mm crows foot and locking extension and tightened it up problem solved good luck!

Thank you, for the ideas Walker.B! I will give them a go.

Yesterday, I removed the Alt., AC Compressor, PS and all corresponding brackets. I was able to get all the way to the harmonic balancer (I did not remove it). I fired up the truck for a minute, there still were no visible leaks from the front of the motor. I was able to get somewhat of a good look at the CP3, I couldn't see any signs of leakage either.

I reassembled the front back together. Fired the truck up and let it warm up a bit. Took note on coolant level, it was fine. I also checked water pump weep hole, it is dry. I proceeded to test drive about 3 miles and returned, no leaks. I shut motor off, within seconds "fluid" started peeing out again from what looks like behind the balancer. Sounds crazy but a sniff test of the "fluid" revealed a cross between diesel and motor oil, a taste confirmed it!

I have been doing alot of research, I have read that a faulty "new" injector could be pumping fuel into the crankcase causing the 2 to dilute. This theory makes sense to me. The question is where would the "fluid" be pumped out of? I have read and reread threads but haven't found the answer.

I do have a crappy video that I made yesterday that needs to upload of the leakage. I am trying to figure that one out.

im not to sure on that when i had bad injectors it dumped fuel into the crank case making oil at one time it was a gallon over full never leaked or seeped

Update:

Just for anyone stumbling onto this thread with the same problem. Or diesel fuel/crankcase oil dilution dripping/running out from bell housing as well as behind harmonic balancer.

When I replaced the injectors and glow plugs, I also replaced the copper washers and the 2 different o-rings on each injector. No injector cups popped out during the replacement. I am definitely **** when torque specs are specified, I triple check!

After having made sure (computer read) injectors were not faulty/sticking open, trouble shooting began. I removed the high pressure fuel lines, there was indeed a tiny bit of "corrosion" on a couple of the flared ends but I would not have considered replacing at the time. After talking with a couple certified mechanics, they convinced me to replace them. I did and the high pressure lines did not resolve the crank case filling up with diesel fuel problem.

Ok, injectors check, High Pressure fuel lines check. So much for DIY'ing budget. What else could it possibly be.

Turns out the return fuel line, specifically the drivers side had a hair line crack in it. I missed it when I removed and inspected the first go around. I replaced both return lines and have not had a problem since. I now have the knowledge and skills to break down this job in almost half the time that it initially took the first time around!

In conclusion. The amount of monies that I saved using Dannys (2500HeavyDuty)write up, I have concluded a couple of things.

1- Be smart and do not buy bargain brand replacement injectors (not that these were bad) but the paid mechanics that helped me would not do the job with them.

2- Replace the High Pressure AND Return Fuel Lines when replacing injectors. The monies saved by DIY'ing far more than make up for the PITA it is chasing down diesel fuel/oil dilution running out of every possible orifice that it can on an LB7.

3- I cannot wait to have to tackle this job in another 60~70,000 miles! I know for a fact it won't take half a weekend.

Carry on fellas'

EDIT: So far the places where the dilution had been leaking out have not been effected in a bad way (thank God). I am hoping the bearings, and internals are not affected as well but I am sure time will tell. I will keep a good eye at oil change intervals, carefully checking for metal fragments and such.

Injectors in my LB7 just crapper put. Drained a measured 5 gallons of oil/fuel out of it. Had enough fluid in it that it was leaking from the rear main...
