Chevy/GMC Duramax 01-04 LB7 Discussion of Chevy and GMC Trucks with LB7 Duramax Turbo Diesel Engines

I have black plastic or epoxy on the bottom of the oil pan. Is that normal, or did I just find why my pickup was so cheap? There is also a water leak on the front of the engine, drivers side. Tried to trace it, ... JOIN NOW TO REMOVE TRACER

Default Engine oil pan?

I have black plastic or epoxy on the bottom of the oil pan. Is that normal, or did I just find why my pickup was so cheap?

There is also a water leak on the front of the engine, drivers side. Tried to trace it, not sure where it starts. About halfway up the front of the motor I think. Water pump?

The leak sounds like it is most likely water pump

I don't know if the black stuff is hiding something or not, but...I've seen black paint not coating on the bottom of the pan...I'm guessin that you shouldn't pull it off..LOL
