Default Easy exhaust question

I just put an under bed spare tire carrier on my 1 ton dually and it sits about 4 inches from the exhaust. My question is should I put on a heat shield on the pipe that is close to the pipe, or is that enough room? It is a stock exhaust (for now) and I don't want any burning rubber and a bad spare. Thanks in advance.
