Default Intermittant Check Engine Light...

Alright- so over the. Last few weeks, I've been getting a SES light on when the truck is going over 1900 rpm. Sometimes it doesn't come on at all, sometimes it comes on, then goes off, sometimes it stays on. In all cases, once you go below roughly 1900 rpm, the light goes off.

I've noted no black smoke or loss of power, nothing on the gauges, and no difference in the sound of the engine.

I've pulled codes (this one is OBD 1) and gotten (I think) 18,33, 39, and 47. Admittedly, this was a few weeks ago and I don't remember where I put the damn piece of paper. I did look all of them up and there wasn;t anything very definitive in them (seems like one was Glow plug relay, another was a CPS, a third was vaguely PMD related, and the fourth was...?) . I've cleaned all the grounds except for one - the back driver side of the engine - which is the PMD (I know...).

So I've got two questions - how do I get to that ground - it looks like it simply connects to a bracket going to the firewall or down to the valley (it is a tan wire and a black wire, I think) and has anybody got any idea on this seemingly random SES light?

It also appears that if I get the RPM's up to, say, 2500, the issue is not as pronounced. Just weird ... Especially since it appears to run fine.

I do have a leaking hydroboost, so that side of the fiirewall (which has some wiring down low on it) has a nice colloection of PS fluid. Any chance this is related? I'm not sure what connectors are down in that area. I plan to get that problem solved this week and then clean up really well - just trying to figure this out to...

Thanks-

You sure about all them codes a couple of them are egr codes and unless I'm wrong that 3500 is a vin F ( no egr) ?????
And the code 39 is torque converter lock up stuck off you might want to get that main ground on the rear passengers side head pulled apart and cleaned and go from there.

Thanks for that - I spent ther last two days fixing my "new" computer in the office, so the truck took a backseat to work (I'm a writer and no computer = no monery). I'll get the correct codes pulled tomorrow and keep digging. Sorry to ask then not provide the info I said i would!

Okay - update. Pulled the codes earlier today and got 36, 38, 41, and 49. 38 and 41 both deal with the brake light switch - torque convertor not locking and the brake circuit malfuntioning. 49 was the Service Throttle Light and a leftover from earlier before I swapped out the bulb. New brake switch went in tonight, cleared the codes, and now I'm down to just #36. Injection. Pulse Width error (long). I found the ground wire for the PMD and cleared that really well - I "think" I have all the grounds now clean and/or replaced.

Anybody experienced with code #36? I', researching it tonight, but I wanted to update the thread since I had put it out there...

Thanks again-
