Default help!! 95 2500 6.5

hey i am new to the diesel world and bought a 95 chevy 2500 6.5 turbo diesel. i have had it for around 3 months and it has done great till here recently! im having problems with the truck stalling! it will run for a little while then die, let it sit for a little while then starts up and goes on! i was told to drop the tank and clean it so i did and i found out the sock on my fuel sendin unit had a hole in it so i replaced it and cleaned the tank. i also put lucas fuel/injector cleaner and a new fuel filter in the truck at the same time as cleanin the tank. the truck did great for a day or 2 now its back to doing the same thing. where should i go from here? ive been reading up on 6.5s and ive seen the pmd are bad to go out but is there a way to check to see if its bad? i dont want to put a large amount of money in the truck unless i just have to! is there any other things that i can do to find out whats wrong with the truck? Thanks for your help and time!!

Make sure that the LP is operational, have a fiend put the truck in gear and turn the key to the start position, then open the water in fuel drain valve and note if fuel is flowing and present.
Also try running with the fuel cap loose-the vent can become plugged and cause fuel starvation.

Only a known to be working PMD can be used for PMD diagnostics, they can cause stalling,no start hot and in some cases engine runaway.
This diagnostic is helpfull but replacement is the only cure for a bad PMD:

Angelofishes on the bay sells used ones for about 60$. it's crap shoot but if you got time and wanna save a few bucks. I have not read great things about the new Standyne grey PMDs and I can speak from PERSONAL experience when I say the Flight Systems(aka dtech, dipaco, wap, dieselrx etc)are garbage. Might as well take a crap shoot on a used black Standyne.
A hole in the sock would'nt cause it anyway unless the tank was damn near empty. Some just chuck the sock.
The only way to truly fix a PMD forever is relocate it to the trash can...
There has been years worth of speculation on why these fail from Engine heat, ambient temp swings, EMP ....
I think they just suck...

Default lift pump

i went out today and tested my lp like you said and i had a steady flow of fuel so im good there i believe but when i got into the light where i could see the fuel in the bottle i noticed a few bubbles gathered in the bottom of the bottle im guessing its water? im not so sure it was all from the truck or not nut i do believe some water is in my fuel! im not a diesel mechanic but i would guess that water would have a big play in my stalling?? correct me if im wrong! also im not really sure how to drain the water from the fuel like i said im new to diesel engines!! another question i have is say i get my truck to running like it should, should i go ahead and relocate my pmd to save future problems or should i just hold off on it? thanks for your help!

Sight glass it.
Take the fuel line off at the IP. Find about 2 ft 1/4" clear tubing from the hardware store, wherever, does not need to be fuel rated hose. Get a splice union and connect the fuel line to the clear tubing. Then put the tubing in a can or something and purge the air by cycling the lift pump. The only way to do that is with a jumper wire with 12v to pin g on the data connector under the dash. After you have fuel in the clear tube connect it to the IP. start the truck with your foot half way down on the throttle and hold the truck at about 17-2000 rpms for 10-20 seconds. Now let it idle and watch the fuel as it goes through the line. if you see any bubbles you are sucking air somewhere.

The fuel return line from the IP is also a good place to put the clear line to watch for bubbles.

Yeah that works. I like to do it pre IP so I know if there is air it's not the IP causing it.
6 and 1/2 of the other...

Irregardless of what you do, relocate your PMD... if you go New, relocate where they say with the heat sync they recommend, or you void their warranty

Only SS Diesel has a stipulated location involved with warranty and it is the wrong location.
If you deal with them make a temporary install where they say to locate and take a picture for your records-then locate the PMD combo out from under the hood to a place like under/behind the frt bumper or behind the grill on a rad support where it has the best chance for a long life.

Then should warranty needs arise, send the picture you took along with your warranty claim, also do not volunteer any information to any vendor about how you use their products unless specifically asked.
