Default crank sensor

ok so today i was replacing my thermostates and while i was replacing them my finger got caught on the wires that feed the crank sensor and it pulled one of the leads out of the sensor on the block. so i got a new one and i extended the wires because i cannot see how i can re-connect the plug with the thermostat housing on and and even had a hard time connecting it with it off is how i pulled a lead off the sensor from the start.. so i went and got a new sensor but i extended the wires so i can hook it up easier but now the truck will not start and the check engine light is on and im getting a code of a malfunction in the crank sensor.. could it be from extending the leads?
