No kidding.
Oh and Canada's recession ended in August and the USA's recession ended this morning according to the paper. Really, I don't see it? - |

yes, the recession in the US is over, BO and cnn said so. unemployment is climbing, debt is climbing, export is plummeting, retail businesses are dropping like flies, real estate and used car values are still dropping and the dollar is inflating faster than ever...but other than that, we're out of the recession. -

There we go again, CNN - yeah, what they say has to be the truth, right? Anyway, if the buy American policy actually takes effect it will hurt more than it will help, esp. with your friends to the north. Right now, the high Canadian dollar and import taxes are seeing our lumber companies and our other natural resource companies really start to hurt. The problem is 2 fold there though; the Canadian dollar is being traded at a higher value against a USD that is falling, resulting in a near parody which is good for the average consumer in Canada who wants to go to the USA to buy something or vacation or whatever but otherwise it drives our prices up and sends out interest rates higher to control this climb.
I see good and bad in all that but right now my focus will be finding a job, a good paying one at that. - |

A high dollar and high price of oil can be beneficial to part of Canada's economy. Alberta was hit by the recession but not NEARLY as bad as the rest of Canada and the USA...house prices dropped here, but they're still higher than they were in 2005 when the boom started. As for the rest of the world....yeah not good. - |

No spell check on this 'puter...
Anyway, on the west coast things are not nearly as bad as the rest of the country but the big jobs are few and far between. With your oil you need to watch out because if hte greenie weenies get on their game you will be in trouble... - |

Hundreds of thousands of acres of land are fallow this year and it will be even worse next year. So, y'all enjoy your produce in your grocery stores and markets right now, 'cause it's about to take a price hike or will just no longer be available. - |

I'm not talking about the US. In Canada it's a bit different. Also on the west coast we actually have some farm land that is protected under what is called the agricultural land reserve and from that we have the ability to grow some foods for us here.
Too bad about that down there though. - |

What?! You guys protect farming land as if it's a life source? That's definitely a foreign concept 'round here. That sounds amazing. The only gov't officiated reserve we have here is trying to protect the dollar from being earned by anyone! -

Yes sir. In this province we have an agriculture land commission (governing body) that controls what is in and what is out of the ALR. It isn't a prefect system but it helps protect what we have left.
Many of us are now seeing the benefits of what is referred to as the 100 mile diet. The trouble we have up here is that the growing season is no where as long as it is down there so come winter it is very hard to eat veggies etc. without importing them and as you indicate that is going to get considerably cost prohibative in the coming years. I say go into the water business. - |
