ok my son and I have beat all the levels and have finished in the top three in every course (mostly 1st). but there still are players and cars that arent unlocked yet. Do we have to get first in every course in order to do that?

you have to complete all cups with a STAR rating in all CC's to unlock everything ,

to get a star rating you will need to get 1st place everytime and try to win by 20 pts , you have to keep wrecking the karts in 2nd and 3rd in points to do it ... you can finish 2nd in one of the races and still get a star but its hard to pull off .

I have 3 stars in all 50 CC and 100 CC cups and atleaset 1 star in all the 150CC cups ,

some of the characters and karts are unlocked via time trials ..

I noticed in the time trial that the computer uses manual drift if you choose auto.

 

the only way to compete on 150cc is to use auto drift which totally sucks

 

yeah on 4 of the courses I have gold medals and the others are silver. I know what you mean. you really cant wreck or anything or you'll be in 4th place.

 

Gold isnt good enough you need to get a star rating not an A B D or E

A ratings are not good enough either ,

when in auto how could you wreck? I had first place by such a lead that i got hit with 3 blue shells on the last lap and still got first

not wreck but get hit by something or get off the track a bit. it always seems like they are right behind you no matter how good your racing. I found out one thing today, that if you have any of the mushrooms and you're about to get hit by a blue turtle shell you can make it miss by activating the mushroom right before the shell hits you. so if you are in first it is handy to hang on to the mushroom just in case someone throws one at you.

you can also avoid the POW block a little by shaking your controller up and down. you still get wiped out but its only one 360 and you keep going.
you can also avoid it by being in the air at the when it happens

Yeah when I get a free night one of these days I'll figure out how to get on line with that thing. I have wireless in my house so I should be able to connect without a hard liine correct?
