I'm looking to buy a new slug gun. i've looked at the Remington 870 with cantilever barrel and a Mossberg 930 with a cantilever barrel. I'm looking to spend between 400 to 600 dollars. Any other guns or ideas would be great!... JOIN NOW TO REMOVE TRACER

For that price range, maybe an Ithaca or lower end Benelli, but a 930 is hard to beat, even by an 870.

I have a Benelli Nova, I was going to just buy the slug barrel for it, but it was almost just as much to buy a complete gun.

Default slug guns

Here's an idea wishful idea. Benelli super black eagle II combo. I worked the gun counter at Gurnee Mills in IL. Bass pro shops for a while. This was the "to die for" shotgun. We didn't carry the combo with both barrels. Gander Mountain did. Pricey. My 870 works just fine for my budget. I also picked up a mossberg 835 for a ridiculous price at Wally world after they red tagged it. I usually check the gun case cause you never know what their getting rid of...

As stated in a previous post barrels as an afterthought are very pricey.

Look on gunbroker.com or auctionarms.com for a combo set. You might get lucky.

Happy Hunting

save the money on the gun, and put it towards the scope for that bad boy, I got a lot of glass sittin on top of my slug chucker, does a helluva job tossin remmington copper solids. Be prepared to spend a few hours with different brands of amo till ya find one that shoots outa your gun, then stick with it, price is nothing as long as it does its job. within reason of course.

The Mossberg 695. Fully rifled - ported barrel - scoped. It is extremely accurate and has been 100% reliable.

I agree with the poster above who recommended a Benelli Nova. I have one and even though it's just about the ugliest thing I've ever hunted with, it's nice having at least one gun that's an absolute beater and that I don't give one one-millionth of a rat's azz if it gets scratched/dinged/beat up. I've never been able to get it to jam or malfunction and given how hard I've tried to do so, that says volumes about the Nova's durability.

The poster above who recommended the Benelli Nova is, ironically, the thread starter as well.

Read the whole thread people.

Dodgehunter,

Since you already have a Nova--if you like it, watch the used racks for one with a rifled barrel. If you buy used, no paperwork. Or, just buy the rifled barrel. Spendy, but ya know....

H1 Bomber, I have a Mossberg 695 and don't like it that well. The shells jam in the magazine and when my buddies and I put on drives I don't have enough shots.

Why Use a Slug Gun when you can use a 50 Caliber Rifle (Mussel Loader) with 150 Grain s of Powder , Drop a deer at 200 yards , no Slug guns going to do that

I don't think you can buy them new anymore, but if all you're wanting is a slug-chucker you may consider trying to find a Savage 210F bolt-action Slug Gun. Throw a 2-7 Leupold on top and watch the deer fall over from fright!

Guy at the shop has one and can put 5 Winchester Supreme's back into their box at 100 yds just shooting off a straw bale.

I could see it with a rifled barrel, modern sabot'ed slugs, and good glass but transferring that kind of accuracy from the range to the deer woods is story #2.
