Are the files on the hard drive, or are you trying to copy from a cd?? If the files are on the hard drive and in WMA format, yes you will have to convert them to MP3.

There is free software on Cnet.com or your MP3 player should have come with software on a cd

Just google free wma to mp3 converter, plenty of them available that work well. If you want to do any edits I recommend Audacity as the software of choice for editing.
---AutoMerged DoublePost--- Also if you go into the properties of Windows Media Player on the "rip" tab you can choose to have it rip to MP3 in the future so you don't have to rip then convert them.
