Default Going to Canada-need some info

Headed towards Red Lake, Ontario in June to do a little fish'n. Haven't been to Canada in over 17 years. I know a lot of things have changed as far as customs since then. Do any of you frequent the border, and if so, what do you know about:
1. ID required for getting across the border( I see a passport is coming soon?)
2. what can we bring from the US as far as beer, booze, and food(how much)
3. Assuming I can't bring enough of my own beer to last me, what's the best Canadian beer out there. Labatt's seems the most prevelant, but looking for an unknow suprise?
4. Anything you can advise me on would be wonderful.

Thanks much,
Heath

Hey Heath
I think you only need reg ID ( DL or BC) to come into Canada but to go home I the US guards may require a Passport but it really depends on the individual you run into? You should contact them before your trip to make sure though. I cant answer what you are allowed to import but when you talk to them about the ID you need you could ask them then. As far as the beer well......... I think if you go home with out sampling a box of Alexander Keith's India Pale Ale you have truly missed out on a fine example of Canadian wobblies. Hope you enjoy your trip. Tight lines

Good Advice Ratsun...

The passport rules do not affect travel by land yet, only by air, so DL or BC, prefferably both will do, passport not required (yet)!

What can you bring for booze...24 beer, 26 oz of hard liquor, 200 cigs, 6 cans chew, no fruit, meat, cheese, dairy products...

As far as other food, I *think* there is a $200 limit on food or clothes and such...If you use ALEVE, leave it at home, they will confiscate it at the border. If ya have prescription drugs, bring your prescription with you.

As far as beer goes...geez, I drink Corona, or MGD... Whatever you like, bring lots of money if ya have to buy booze or smokes up here!!

What happened to the big ole wild world known as Canada. To cold for sex, can't afford to drink or smoke and no guns allowed. That aint how I saw it in the movies.

Thanks gents. Take home message...a good buzz does not come cheap.
I'll definitely look for some Alexander's.
Good advice. Thanks again.

Ive seen more of the U.S. than I have of Canada....

PS, yeah, get some India Pale Ale...one of my Favorites. As well, Big Rock Brewery has some nice selections.

It was gasoline. It was 88 cents a gallon, in Corpus Christi Texas and the year was 1997. (I still remember it because were were paying 4-5 times that up north).
