So are you planning on punching holes thru steel plate at 1600 yards or just want to have a 38 pound carry weapon? -

LOGANSTANFORTH, That really is the best avatar ever. This is my first post, so i'll say hello. To your question, i'll say that i have shot a barret with a clamshell muzzle brake. The recoil was reduced to something like that of a 20ga shotgun, but i didn't care for the concusion and wouldn't enjoy shooting it for a match day. Maybe the fishgill brake would be better. I shot the barret at 1000 yards and will say that it does make the trip pretty quick. If you do get one i would be interested in your thoughts on it. Just how big are these deer you have? Dean -

the recoil on the Rebel is like a 12 gauge with 3 inch magnums, with the fish mouth it should drop it some more, and im also thinking of a mercury recoil reducer in the stock and little softer butt plate.......for the couple hundred extra i might just go with the Big Bertha.....im also considering a the Barret JUST BECAUSE for a few hundred more i can get the bolt action clip fed.........

yes, low cost, high volume......just like this gun, shoot one bullet and it will kill 3 deer, 2 from the bullet and 1 from the sound.......

ill be using it for that too.....

Barret is listing MSRP for their rifles at 3,800.00 but my gun guy said he can get them ALOT cheaper than that, oh and yeah, this is the same guy that has a tank in his barn he is restoring, and a tracked missle loader under his car port, a field artillery cannon beside the garage, and a dodge power wagon ambulance setting beside the shop, a few scout cars, PLUS he has owned a few other tanks and military vehicles also............ -

Heres you a couple more options..

The LAR Big Bore "Grizzley" is an excellent gun..

GunsAmerica - LAR GRIZZLY BIG BORE - LAR/Grizzly Mfg. Co. Rifles - Guns For Sale & Gun Auctions B"H

LAR Grizzly Rifles at Impact Guns Home

50 Caliber Rifles at Impact Guns Home

And If you're not DEAD SET on a 50.. There is always the .458.. less expensive shells, and is actually a little more accurate that the .50..

Rock River Arms is where i bought my last AR from.. They have awesome quality.. next to only COLT.. IMO they are superior to Bushmaster.. Rock River Arms offers .458 at a really good price on the site.. but thru any descent dealer u can get it cheaper..

check them out.. Rock River Arms: -

Sold my Barrett to a guy that had to have it. I ran custom brake that reduced concussion, but it was still violent.

I shot one of the Rock River .458s and loved it.

But at the end of the day, I like having the .50 just for the intimidation factor at the range. I tend to be the only one shooting as soon as I crank off the first round. It sure scatters folks and makes them twitchy at the trigger.

HI LOGAN, Get the big bertha, my weight is 44 pounds, scope wise the most inexpensive one I would buy would be the MILLETT 4-16X56 30mm tube or their 6-25X56 30mm tube, have both scope and they can handle 50BMG recoil, want to spend more money on a scope LEUPOLD MARK 4 4.5-14X50 and the most expensive scope I have NIGHTFORCE 5.5-22X56 This scope is the best when it comes to the 50BMG. One last thing about scope, I BEEN told that a decent scope for under $199 is the BARSKA 6-24X56, I have NEVER used this scope, but been told that it's not bad. Remember anytime you go over 25X the scope will lose clarity, light, focus, and the mirage will be magnified, So don't buy a scope thats like a telescope !!! Muzzle-brake, the STATE ARMS fish-gill SUCKS, my big bertha has one,BUT my STATE ARMS model M 50BMG, which is 10 pounds lighter than my big bertha has a FISHER MUZZLE-BRAKE, and kicks less, I would dare say less than a 20 gauge !!! I like the FISHER MUZZLE-BRAKE so much, that the other 2 50BMG rifles have them, those two rifles are McMILLAN 50BMG, one has the de-tachable tacticle stock, the other a beautiful lamented wood stock. -
