My Diesel

I sold my 97 12 valve in august of 07. I thought I no longer need a diesel so ill get something smaller…. I ended up getting a 98 4runner. What was I thinking I had it all of three months. Two of those months I was looking for a grail truck. Then one day im on craigs list and I see the truck Its in Atlanta and it was just posted. His price was a tad high but for 102K it was a steal I Called him up and made an offer. After some negotiating I had the truck. I met him in Memphis the next weekend. The day was 11-7-2007. it had 102XXX on the truck by the time I pulled in at 2AM it had 103XXX. The trip wasn’t that bad I drove down there with the 4runner and the car hauler in tow. And pulled the 4runner back on the car hauler. Right away I noticed that the stock trans was lacking a lot. So I started saving. It already had an EGT and boost gauge so I added a trans temp from ndurbin. I figured out after doing some research that if I was going to put the cash into a Trans I better go all the way. SO I let the money grow in a separate account I made for it. Come mid march the trans started acting up it started locking up in first gear After some talking to Dave and some trouble shooting. We figured out it was the VB but I said na I want to put in a complete trans mission. He said well ok so He built it and shipped it to me and I had it installed on spring break by Chris Blevins. That triple disk made it feel like a new truck. The next weekend it had #100 in it . and a lock up switch. Next in June came a bhaf and outerwares fallowed by a full 4” exhaust. Then in September in went the 4K GSK, bumped timing and 60lb valve springs. That’s the performance side. Other things ive added along the way included fifth wheel and goose neck hitches, CB, cup smoothie, Tow mirrors, Ipod, radar detector, 3rd gen wheels and of course Diesel bombers decals. Next is a set of 5x14 injectors, large turbo and a bumper or brush guard.

As for a price I added it up and I shouldn’t have oh well whats a hobby without spending some green.


Update….

Wow this year has been crazy. It started in January with 5x14s and it put down 426 and 1007 or something like that at BTS. After that I was feeling an itch and away it went from here it’s gotten a 64/68-14 E.D. turbo and then an Airdog 150 and 6X14s it also got a fresh Goerend trans thanks to a bad spring in the VB. It laid out a 479/107X in then the turbo went in late may after a 13.6 @ 97mph pass. After that I borrowed a a 66/74 from Jamie Wood till my turbo got fixed. And went to a higher stall TC. I ran a 13.6 @ 107mph in June. In July it came in 3rd and 4th many times in the local pulls. I have gotten it back but had a injector go south on me about 3 weeks ago so now im back to running a less than great set of injectors. And last week the studs went in. Next on the list is a set of big injectors some DVs and maybe a little turbo trading.
