3 Part Truck Chopping Tutorial for PS CS3

In this tutorial I will show you how to use paths to change the color of your truck, add a custom decal, and tint your windows.
This is the photo we will be using if you would like to follow along. I got the photo from DB it is dodger5.9's truck.

When we are done this will be our new truck.

Part 1 Changing the color of you truck using Paths.
1. Open your image in photoshop.
2.Duplicate your image.
3.Click on the Pen Tool using the same settings as mine and make an outline of the truck.
It should look something like this when you are done.

4.Then outline all the parts of the truck that are not part of the paint use the same settings I did.
5.Open your Paths pallet.
At the bottom of the pallet click on the load path as a selection button. 
6.Go back to the Layers pallet and click on background copy click on the lasso tool right click and select layer via copy. Then press (ctrl+shift+U) you should now have a desaturated cut out image.
7.Go to image-adjustments-variations.
Change the image to the color you prefer and click OK.
-There may be parts of the image that you don't want colored like the side mirrors and
door handles use the lasso tool to select those areas click on background copy and
right click then layer via copy and press (ctrl+shift+U) to desaturate. you can also use
the eraser tool to get rid of anything you don't need.
You should now be done with coloring your Truck
Part 2 Adding a Decal
1.Duplicate the background copy layer click (ctrl+shift+U).
2. Add some text or an image what ever you want I used DieselBomber.com as my text. Then right click on the text in the Layers pallet and select Rasterize Type/Shape.
3.Next you want to match the text up to the side of the truck using the distort and skew options while in free transform mode.
4.Go over to the layers pallet and push (ctrl+right click) on the text image that will select the text layer.
5.Select the desaturated image and press (ctrl+shift+i) to invert the selection then press the (Delete Button) then (Ctrl+D) to deselect.
6.Move your new image up and under the original text image.
7.Select your original text image and press (ctrl+right click) on the text image in the layers pallet to select the text layer. Like we did in step 4.
8.Select your gradient tool
and get a gradient that will look nice with the color you picked for your truck. 
9.Match up the gradient with the way the text is laying as best you can.
10.Add a new layer above the gradient text layer and name it stroke. Then (ctrl+right click) on the gradient text image in the layers pallet. Make sure that your stroke layer is highlighted. Go to (Edit-Stroke).
Add a small stroke to the layer.
. Then press (Ctrl+D)
11.Set the stroke layer to Multiply, Opacity85%
12.Set the gradient text layer to Overlay, Opacity 85%
13.I still think I looks a little plain so I'm going to add a tribal design behind the text.
14.Select the shapes tool using my settings I used black for color.
Make your shape over the text then move your shape under the text layers.
15.Duplicate your shape and press the eye to make it invisible we will use it later.
16.Repeat steps 1 thru 6 with your Shape.
17.Select the Duplicate shape Change the color to something that will go with your image and truck color I picked a deep blue .
18.In free transform mode flip layer vertical then repeat steps 1 thru 6 again.
19.Select the black Shape and set it to Overlay, Opacity 95%
20.Select the blue Shape and set it to Overlay, Opacity 90%
Thats it for part 2 of this tutorial you should now have something like this
Part 3 Tinting the windows
1.Add a new layer above your colored truck image
2.Open you paths pallet and select the pen tool you want to use the ^ tool Select the window paths by holding the shift key in and clicking on the window paths.
3.Left click and choose Make selection and press OK.
4.Press (ctrl+shift+i) then fill your selection with black. Press (Ctrl+D)
5.I had to put the rear window on a separate layer because the windows were down on the side of the truck.
6.Add another new layer above your first windows select the eye on both the back and side windows so they are invisible.
7.Use either the lasso tool or the paths tool to outline the windshield I used the lasso tool. Then fill the selection with black
8.Set the front window at Opacity 60%
9.Set the side windows to Opacity 80%
10.Set the rear window to Opacity 60%
11. You can change the opacity if you like to make the windows darker or lighter.
This should be your final Image.

Part 3 Tinting the windows
1.Add a new layer above your colored truck image
2.Open you paths pallet and select the pen tool you want to use the ^ tool Select the window paths by holding the shift key in and clicking on the window paths.

4.Press (ctrl+shift+i) then fill your selection with black. Press (Ctrl+D)
