Default Boss Needs Class A's

Well I think I finally got my break and found a new job. All that stands in my way is their insurance. I have to find out if a failure to control citation in july of 05 and a speeding ticket in oct. of 05 are gonna hold me up. Hopefully not cause its basically my dream job.

Anybody got any tips on taking the tests for Class A? -

I'm guessing they have some other drivers? If ask them or other driver for there old test you get to keep every old test you take. Really its easy if you study the manual real good you should be fine. I can't say about the Hazmat endorsement if you need it but I hear its kind of a PITA. The pre trip walk through is whats hard find a list of the stuff you have to name off and go around a truck with the list read off and looking at the items several times. During the test it you are having a hard time naming things off just name everything you see or think of. You don't lose points for naming to much. -

Sounds like me in the tractor driving contest, just name anything and everything you can... They stopped me one time... -

If you've already got a Class B the Class A test isn't going to be that hard. Just don't run the trailer up on a curb and you'll be OK? You gonna be local or OTR? Ain't no way I could stand to drive a local truck in Slohio. I hated goin through there with there sound barrier breaking speed limit -

Well I got the job!!! I should be ok with insurance because both my priors are dropping off this year.
I have driven a bunch before on the farm, I just havent needed a CDL thats why I didnt get it sooner. I am more nervous about the pre-trip and having to double clutch a trans that is designed not to be double clutched than anything else.

I'm gonna be delivering equipment for a local rental company. Something I think would suit me just dandy. I cant wait to start!!! -

I don't think you have to double clutch just don't grind them, but I don't know for sure I did or tried to DC during my test to be safe. -

just make sure you tell the tester when you are doing your walk a round pre trip inspection what you are looking/grabbing at and why. I was told that if you don't, they will fail you right on the spot. I got into so much detail on mine the tester asked what was different on the passenger side vs the drivers side (started left front corner and did drivers side first) and I told him nothin, get in lets go! LOL... He kind of frowned when I showed up in my Pete for the test and I got out of the drivers seat. My old man was with me though so I was legal having my provisional and had a current licensed driver with me. It is easy, just relax and do your best. You can do it! -

If you can show proof of previous experience that they will except all you have to do is the written test, no driving. In my case all I needed was my military license showing the king pin and they excepted it but farm work also qualifies. -

I dont know if farm experience counts but 16 years a a truck driver in the ARMY kept me from taking the pretrip/driving test, knowledge tests werent too bad but hazmat is a PIA and now will cost over $100 for background check & fingerprints. And then gotta pay again for the TWIC Transportation Workers Identification Card, so I can get into the ports, and will have to pay again for the same background checks to get my FAST card to get into and out of Canada. All while my TS security clearance from the ARMY is still valid! Tell me again how much I love my job! -
