Anyone else had this happen yet?
This aftermarket intake plenum, exploded on the Dyno an hour ago, hit the underside of the hood, deflected off the hood just missing the tech and still had the speed to hit the 20ft ceiling of our shop. Crazy!! Truck was a 12 Valve with twins making about 50-60PSI at the time. Something serious to consider for you guys running dyno's. - |

That was a faulty casting. It appears that they either left out part of the curing process or didnt complete the heat treat. -

And can you tell us who made it? -

That looks like a CFM intake. -

Nope, but shear and tear forces don't care who built the product or what it is. -

I would rather not mention the brand on here, my intentions are to caution the techs that are running the dyno with these with this type of intake on the trucks.
I can relate to protecting you against the products you buy so if you must know what brand it was, please PM me. - |

I don't believe that intake horn was designed for boost much/if any over stock values. When it came onto the market it had no ports for anything, I don't know if that has changed over time since I had no interest in it.
Anyone doing mods who is in their right mind thinking about power increases would not replace a stock 'metal' intake horn with plastic. Most all know that the plastic factory intercooler hose is an issue to a stock truck over time, let alone adding more plastic?? Regardless, this is a very dangerous proposition under pressure, glad no one got hurt. It may be that the hood needs kept closed when dyno-ing with this thing on. Maybe the dyno guys will just refuse to do the trucks with these?? NP - |

I agree, the only time this would be an issue with safety is on a dyno with the hood open, with the hood closed it would scare the poop out of you that's about it. LOL - |
