S&B intake install and review.
I recently purchased an S&B intake, figured I'd give my report on how the install went. Intake instructions are great, intake install was very easy, I'd guesstimate 45 min to 1 hour to complete the install. Hardest part, was getting the bellow to slide over the 2 s&b parts, once I got it on the first part of the install, the 2nd was easier, as I found helping it with a small flathead screwdriver did wonders. One other small issue, the maf connector, had to be slightly trimmed to plug in. The instructions said that you can loosen the screws if need be and plug it in, problem was this would pinch the connector in the seal and possibly cause a leak, so I trimmed a small amount, less then 1/8 off the back side of he connector where it was hitting on the s&b tube, and it plugged in no problems. Initial drive results: You can hear the turbo spool a TON more now, exhaust brake noise seems to have increased a good bit as well, both IMO are an improvment. There's no questioning if you have the brake on at idle now, as it's clearly heard Power, I didn't notice any real power increase, but I didn't really expect to, I bought it because I wanted a reusable filter, and if anything a mileage increase. Any added power is fine, but it's an intake, I mean it's not like the thing has a 1 inch pipe feeding the motor from the factory. I have been averaging roughly 17.7 mpg on the highway going an average of 70 to 75 on my way to and from work (30 miles one way, 300 miles a week) so if there is any change in the fuel economy, I think it will be noticable right away. Overall, I'm pretty happy with the setup. S&B supplies some of the best instructions I have seen to date with anything aftermarket, there's really no questions left other then my minor connector issue, but the way the instructions explained it, that may have worked fine, I just chose a slightly different approach.

So far, I have driven about 180 miles (had a training seminar yesterday, had to go about 75 miles each way vs 30) and when I got to work today, judging by the overhead and the position of the fuel guage, it's helped the mileage out, how much I'm going to wait until I fill the truck up and see.

Crank case tube isn't touched, they attach the intake to the elbow @ the turbo inlet.
IMO, that crankcase tube, probably needs to be ditched and a filter put on the end of it. PCV IMO, only does one thing: add more crap to the intake charge that isn't going to help anything
The factory, should have put a mechanical vaccum pump on the engine (as well as every other factory car IMO) if it needed the pressure removed. Polluting the intake charge, whoever came up with that should be smacked.

i was going to get the s&b intake but i wanted to get the dry filter from afe. there intake tube go's to the turbo and has a hole with a grommet for the tube. i want to block off the hole and rune the tube down to open air like the 5.9's. it already has a filter under the valve cover that should be enough
