First off sorry for the double post, here and the other 6.2/6.5 thread, but this is my only truck, and I need some ideas

Okay so I was out offroading with my friend, nothin major just climbing hills on dirt roads and such, when i got back out on pavement my tranny started to knock, litterally, so i parked it, and hopped in with my buddy and got his trailer, we got it home, changed out the fluid, it was bright red, and replaced it and drove it home, about 5 miles away it started dropping in and out of gear, then dropped out and wouldnt go back in.

Im just planning on getting a new transmission, and i would almost bet that I over heated it, but if i could not pay for a new trans and just get this one serviced i would rather do that, anyone know of any possible points i should look at first?

Running around town or towing in overdrive burns up the overdrive clutch pack, hence no gears.

linkage? this would be my guess
and it would be way cheaper to just get it fixed
mine started slipping then lost the two top gears and this is what my fluid looked like

no the overdrive gears goin out have nothin to do wit the lower gears if it does not go into gear at all when u move the gear shift u have either tore up the torque converter or the front pump on ur trannny and there wont be any metal shavings unless it was the converter because when the pump goes out it does not pump anymore fluild there for no curculation both are easy to fix

for what it sounds like it is ur pump or your converter both are easy to change the converter is a no brainer any one can change one out and if u are gonna change out ur pump dont remove the valve body u dont need to just remove ur filter and the converter lockup selonid (its mostly plastic with two wires)then remove all the bolts in front and it will come out the hard part braking the seal i have had a tranny brake the same way
