Check 5R110W tranny pan updates

Well I got the parts together for the ’08 tranny pan swap tackling the task this evening. I’m really glad to have found the drained fluid just as clean looking as the new fluid out the bottle. I didn’t find anything in the bottom of the pan that would have caused me great concern. The most shocking part was the plug magnet that has collected 104K miles of fine metal particles. I cleaned the magnet off and installed it on the new ’08 pan. I took the time to replace the smaller in-line by-pass filter in the front of the truck. After a short test ride to confirm no leaks or drivability concerns I’m glad she’s ready for another 100K plus of smooth shifting and hard pulling.

Better made in Mexico than made in China...
Most stuff I've had from Mexico really isn't that bad.

What is the differnce between a 2005 and 2008 pan??

The pan is required to run the filter element since it's a tad longer. This is an actual filter that is installed not just a screen. The OEM interval for the filter element is 30K IIRC. For the old screen it's just a tranny flush and fill service.

Using this with the in-line bypass filter should offer more debris trapped. The pan may hold an additional quart of fluid over the older pan style.

Thanks

that makes a lot of sense?
The Ford dealer in town told me that they remove the pan and change the screen filter and drop the oil and change the remote filter for $350.00 plus tax (15%)
The owners manual says like you said "tranny flush and fill service and change the remote filter"

I told them it was a 2005 f350.....

The next time i change the tranny oil i will get the 2008 pan and internal filter..

I changed mine on friday night...
I changed the filter screen and new rubber gasket..from Nappa

i also could not believe how much dirt, metal stuck to the drain magnet...The remote filter cartridge was really dirty and slimmy

I think the previous owner never dropped the pan or diff fluid in 191,000 miles....
the owners manual says the rear diff fluid is good for life....

The front diff oil was scary ...black ..grey and stinky...
The Rear fluid was dirty and the also the drain plug had scum on it..

What other mods have you made...

I am definately changing the pan to 2008 in 30,000 miles.
that is why the remote filter was full and clogged..

I put in 8 litres of tranny fluid in .... Does that make sense?

thanks Again
