I have been thinking about buying a 1st gen to play around with. Is it hard to P-pump one? Will it make good power like a 2nd gen 12V will? Just an idea I had and I was wondering if anyone had done it here. Thanks in advance,
The 12 valve Cummins be it the VE pump or P7100 are for so much conversation Identical. Save for the pumps and harware that it bolts to.
But if I may, The whole charm of the Gen 1s IS the VE. Do get the truck, but give the VE a chance.
yea you need a new timing cover I believe. new injector lines, adaptors for injectors...and the actual p7100 itself...that will set you back a pretty penny. If you found a wrecked truck with one then it would be ideal as you have all the parts.
It was just an Idea. I have been reading and the VE doesnt sound too bad. I am trying to decide if I wanna keep mine and buy a 1st gen or try something else. Thanks for all the help guys.
you can get the be to 400 hp....but it will be a chore...I know you can put a bigger pump head on it to flow more fuel. But the ve is part of the character of a 1st gen.
