Default Fuel Pin Options

Hey guys, I have a 93 intercooled VE pump 12v in my 98 3500. I finished installing and tuning my Dually's VE pump (Injector pump) for 3200 RPM as far as the stock pump goes with the new limiter spring. I have decided to upgrade the fuel pin and I am trying to figure out who's to go with. I am not going with the Bully Dog pin as their pin is not hardened and gets grooved after some time.

This truck mainly tows my gooseneck race trailer so my EGT's can't go through the roof as well as I don't want to "roll coal" necessarily just good consistent power and torque curve. (I realize I need to expect some haze or light smoke I just don't want to be leaving thick black clouds whenever I leave a light).

My truck has the following mods: Borg Warner 300SX turbo, 3" intake piping (hot and cold piping), massive as big as you can get intercooler, intake heater removed, 4" downpipe straight to 5" exhaust (nothing but pipe). I also use a turbo timer to cool the turbo (and let oil not bake in turbo) after long trips. Also my head is studded.

One other thing is I do have the Flexalite dual E-fan setup on my truck. I have no issues towing with it (My trailer grosses at around 16K).

The stage 1 would be a good choice for a stockish motor it still has a mild ramp. The stage 2 is the one I run with my pump maxed, if you haven't done that yet I would. Its a very noticeable gain in power. And because ve pump fuels so much down low it takes some tuning the get the smoke out. With stock injectors and the h1c @ wot I still smoke pretty heavy. I ran a hx35 for a bit and it would clean up as soon as the turbo lit. I just bought a fmw 62/68/14 j-cupped from DAP their manifold and about to get their 5x14's I'm curious how the motor will change.

I think that's my best bet, start with the stage 1 and see where it goes from there after playing with tuning a bit. Just really need to see where it takes the EGT I just don't know what to expect...

When you max the power screw out on the pump doesn't that raise the EGT very quickly? I'm just worried about having issues while towing my gooseneck. Do you think between the intercooler, exhaust setup and everything I have I can keep it acceptable?

Just currious but are you going to waste gate the 62/68? Sounds like a good setup

yea its waste-gated, the housings DAP uses are waste-gated on both scrolls, im only gonna run 40 psi out of it till i do my compounds, the 62 over a s475. yes max the power screw does raise the egts a good bit, but you have to factor in the non intercooled injectors are bigger than intercooled injectors, and the pump is a bit different as fast as factory tuning goes. non intercooled trucks run hotter than intercooled trucks, i did some light towing before i installed my intercooler maybe 6.5k lbs with pump maxed and stage 2 fuel pin with knock off hx35 going down the high way egts were around 7-800 up a good 5 mile grade only went up to maybe 1050, thats also with the 727 and stock t/c, if i have a 14 cm housing it would of been even lower. BTW towing speed where i am is 55-60 mph

do you know what size exhaust housing you have on that s300? for towing you want no smaller than a 14cm with a auto trans

Ok I am going to try maxing the screw and watching my EGT. Between all my bolt ons they should help with the raising of the temp. Maybe it won't be as bad as I thought.

I'll go ahead and order a stage 1 pin and see how it does after I max the screw.

I have the specs from BorgWarner. I'll look at them tonight.

Thanks for your help.

Have you checked Hungry Diesel's pin? Elsewhere they get a pretty good review.
Just another option.
