Leave the air intake grid heater. Unless you're building an all out race truck, it's not going to restrict your air flow...all it's gonna do is give your imagination horsepower. My pops bought a '97 with the banks twin ram already on it and I had a '96 that I made my own 3" stainless intake horn for and I can't tell a bit of difference between the two, EGT and boost pressure are comparable...price is no where near comparable!

I don't have a link for you for anyone that makes/sells them but I know several shops make/sell stainless intake horns for the 2nd gen 12v trucks, I think they're around $100. -

I have this condition, where I perceive OEM parts as 'broken' and in need of aftermarket replacement.

oops, he did, my above answer was more for a 2nd gen. I think bank$ used to make a 1st gen intake but they don't any more. the 2nd gen intake horn (OEM or aftermarket) won't fit the intercooler-to-intake horn hose on the 1st gen. -

I'll be working on something here in a few weeks hopefully using a 2nd gen intake horn. Not sure if I'll use a 12v or a 24v but one of them. Then when I get that to work I'll step it up to an aftermarket one. -

eh, unless you have the 2nd gen 12v California model with the intake horn necked down to 1" inside diameter to help draw in the EGR(), the intake horns aren't gonna make much difference until you do a lot of other stuff.

You'd be way better off buying a used exhaust housing for your turbo or a BHAF cold air intake than an intake horn. -
