Talking What Is The Best First BOMB?

What mod should come first, injectors or turbo? Granted it will be some time and as money permits, but I'm curious as to which should be first. Just bought the fuel system and there's $1k in new tires looming on the horizon, but want to plan ahead. Thanks all.

what size injectors?
if they are to big befor you put a turbo on your going to run in to alot of smoke and high EGT's....

what size turbo??
a larger turbo you will just have alot of lag with out the injectors..

if anything comes 1st it's injectors.. personally i would do them both at the same time..
buy one and hold on to it until you can afford the other

bow2no1, make sense doing both. Just takes time to stash funds for each purchase so trying to do a little a time. I like to play a little bit with the truck but it's mostly for towing my toy hauler. So injectors would be 100's max, probably 50's. I don't have the turbo's figured out yet, as to how they can be configured for inlet/outlet sizing. Need fairly quick spool up and torque still though. I was concered if there's too much fuel and not enough air I would see black smoke while daily driving.

i think you can just buy a larger wheel and compressor housing to bolt to your stock turbo for around 200-300?

may get you buy for a while till you can afford a larger turbo and buy some 50's

then when you want to upgrade you can sell the 50's and stock turbo here or on ebay. to get the money to pay for the full upgrade..

bow2no1, if you or anyone else knows who upgrades the stocker that would definitely be up my alley for now. Haven't seen anyone else do that yet. Maybe HTT does it?

or just buy a hx35/hx40 h1c/h1e they are both pretty much the same but the HX series flows better and probably spools better too.

Was just searching for my post and magically it was "re-titled" from the "Chicken or the egg?" I posted. Is there no humor allowed? I'm new to this site but not to diesel forums and the last thing I would do is ask a question that's been asked a thousand times. If the question I used as my thread topic was offensive just explain it as such and I'll adjust in the future. Thanks.

if someone had changed the title of the thread, you should have gotten a PM from the person who changed it.

But i think if injectors are good for a first bomb, the stock turbo the the cumins can run alot of boost, just make sure you add the boost fooler on top before the injectors.

maybe just maybe, if ur getting something like a aroura 2k for a turbo then turbo first i think would be better.

it was me and i just sent a PM. but to just get this out in the open, i changed the thread title because in the future if someone searched for First BOMB or something of that nature then they will find this thread. also changing it brought more people in here to answer your question.

i personally did the turbo first. mine is alittle large but EGT's were super cool. spool time was a lil laggy..... but i do agree with Bow.... order them and stash them in the cabinet. then when you install all of it you will be plesantly suprised.... i was just a lil' anxious and wanted my parts installed right then..... less than 1 hour after they were dropped off by UPS....

I called HTT about this when my HX35 went kaboom a few months ago. He'd had the parts on back order for 3 months (maybe longer) and didn't have a clue when he would get any nor would he guess.

As for which first if I was gunna throw one on in your situtation, I'd do the turbo for EGTs since ya tow. Otherwise I'd just stash it away until ya got both if EGTs weren't a concern.

i have a couple stock ones......... there are plenty of site sponsors that'll help you out with that need..... just go to their forums and get a price quote. i believe they all offer the big names, HTT (which i have and love), II, BD, and i even think someone on here sells Turbonetics/Garrett..... just make sure you do the research and know exactly what you want in a turbo before ordering. remember that a 14cm housing will be more laggy than a 12cm housing BUT a 14 will have slightly cooler egt's on the big end. so you'll lose a lil' bottom end to gain alittle more comfort on the big end..... and don't go too big. i think i did even though i'm happy with my 64mm i think i should have went with a 62mm..... if you go small (like the 62 or smaller) you can always in the future send it back to whoever you get it from and get it upgraded for no where near the price of a new one. that way you can get one that'll work good now and when you want a lil more power you can upgrade it to the next step up. it'll prolly cost more in the long run than buying the biggest right now but you will be happy as you increase your power along the way.

My highest EGT's were 1250 climbing a 6% grade with my 11k toy hauler, so no worries yet. Not sure what they'll be after small/medium injectors. I was eyeing I believe an HTT 62/12. They (HTT) seem to have a good rep and upgradeability later on. Most turbo upgrades say to go with 4" exhaust but the '03's have no cat and mine is 3 1/2" staight pipe to the axle and 4" the last three feet. Should flow well enough, you think?

a 62/12 should do very well..... egt's will be higher than that with new sticks and the stock turbo..... was that temp pre or post turbo? and how long did it take it to get to that temp? you will more than likely need to look into a boost fooler.... not sure of that Edge JWA does fooling.... other than that that's the turbo i should have got IMO......
