If all your internals are in good shape then a tc and a vb will work just fine. Still wouldnt recommend any boosted launches anything like that

A quality VB and good converter is a great upgrade. If you like to lean on it then a billet input is in your future. Here is the issue. The billet input requires about 1/3 of the transmission to be torn down and reassembled. The transmission is already out! If you are at that point, then build it right the first time.

On a full rebuild they can fix the crapy oil ports to the overdrive.
