I tried to get the silencer ring out of a friends 06 Dodge but I gave up after an hour. The gap of the ring is at the 3:oo position and for the life of me I could not get it out. I have taken out about a dozen of these things and this one i couldn't.
Anybody els have trouble or can give any tips/advice. - |

two scribes always worked best for me, one to pry and one to pull. but i had to use a small flat head screw driver and two scribes and work it out on my 06 because it was stubborn. is it moving at all? -

As DieselDent said some can be tough. The pointiest thing you can get in there to get under the edge. Some of those 3rd gens can be tough to get them out. I've used the small picks and such (like you use to grab seals and o-rings) with success too. -

It took me under 10 secs with a stiff small flat screwdriver. Just be careful and dont scratch stuff. i have an 2006. You can also try a pick... -

I was just about to give up on mine after a frustrating hour. Quit for a second, then tried again and the little clip just popped right out... -

my buddy went and bought a cheap pick and ended up breaking it trying to pry out the ring. Luckily he called and I was able to take a piece of cardboard and a paper towel and stuff it in the opening and got the broken piece out without going in the turbo!
And the ring wins again. It still did not budge! - |

ok I ran in to this with my friends 96 cummins. I dented it behind the gap until i could fit a pair of needle nose pliers in and pull it right out. bad thing was the ring was useless. but it got the sob out. fought it for 2 hours be fore i gave up and went with the pound on it idea. DENT IT AND GRAB IT

I finally got it!
I did what silverbullet did and it worked out. I dented it behind the gap until I could get my small screwdriver beside the ring and pry it up just enough to have my buddy grab the end with a pair of needle nose pliers and just pull it right out!!! Thanks silverbullet! I had thought of trying that but was afraid I might hurt something. It worked and worked out great! He is grinning ear to ear now that he can hear his turbo more!!! |
