Default AFE Filters: Pro Dry5 or Pro Guard7 which is better?

Ok I'm buying a stage 2 intake kit to go with my other mods but don't know which is the better filter. Pro dry 5 or pro guard 7. Can't find any data as far as ratings on the prop guard7. I live in Southern California, Often in dusty, sand types of enviroments offroad and also do my share of mudding.
Most important is Engine protection,
second is performance.
Let me know thanks in advance -

I would go with the dry filter especially with what you are doing with the truck. Oil filters get nasty quick in dusty, sandy enviroments... I ran a proguard 7 when I got my 07 and after a couple cleanings, I switch to the dry filter and besides easier cleaning, nothing has changed performance wise and as for engine protection, its exactly the same filter design as the proguard so your engine should be fine -

I have an AFE stage II but after about a year and more than a few cleanings (because of a similar environment as you) I just replaced the ProGuard 7 filter with an Amsoil EaAU6080. They make a pretty good good dry filter that surpasses the Cummins spec for filtration - I think the Cummins spec is 99.5% or greater and both the PG7 and Amsoil surpass that. Anyway, I got tired of the downtime and the EA6080 fits the PG II intake tube @ 6", flows very well, and when it's time for service you vacuum it out with a shop/brush vac and reinstall. Worked for me.

Be well,
Mikey -
