Default What HP numbers do you guys see with mild injectors and timing only boxes?

Hi all, I have a VanAaken V5 which does mainly timing only (I think) and am looking for a quality set of injectors. I was thinking something no larger that 100HP so I can stick with my HX35 and boost elbow for a while.

I was wondering what kind of HP and EGT numbers you guys with a similar set up are experiencing. I'm mainly looking for more towing power; not too much for racing although the occasional freeway thrashing is fun. I tow about 12.5K from sea level to about 6K feet about 10 times a year and would like an injector that will hold 3rd gear at 55-60 (+-2-2200 RPM) going up freeway hills without downshifting.. that's the wish .

Thanks fellas,
Mikey

I dynoed at 289hp/600tq rear wheels with a VanAaken and 50hp (DD1) injectors. I had an auto with a j-hook and couldn't get it much past 1350egt.

With 100hp injectors you will have to keep an eye on the EGT gauge but you should be able to drive around the EGTs no problem even pulling 12.5k lbs.

The VA box and RV275 injectors is a nice improvement over stock, and makes towing 100% better.

I would not go with 100 hp injectors and a stock turbo for towing. Get a set of rv 275's or 300's 40-75 hp stick is perfect

I am running a superchips tuner witch is mostly timeing and 80hp injecters, with the other mods in my sig. I havn't towed anything real heavy maybe 5k-6k lbs, but never had egts get high. Highest I have seen was about 1300-1400 WOT at about 110mph! For power I am estimated at about 375hp, I max out at about 38psi of boost with a boost fooler. Hope this helps, any other questions just ask. good luck

We have a great deal on some 50-60hp injectors. Let me know if I can help.

Thanks for the replies. Seadrive and J-Pipes, which turbos are you running? I would rather go a bit smaller on the injector size and not have to worry about or drive by EGTs. I've heard some say that 100hp - 125hp sticks and an HX35 are the 'perfect towing setup'; others say not to exceed about 75. Being more on the cautious side I'm leaning more toward the 75s. Now the hard part is to find the cleanest burning 75hp stick.

Luke, I will send you a PM shortly. Thanks.

on my 98.5 i used an EZ timing box and dd2's which were 80 hp inj for that truck. didnt dyno but felt real good and towed with no egt issues. stock hx-35.

my 02 i ran the same injectors which were 90 hp inj on that truck as it was an eth-dee HO. i also ran a loose wire comp box which was the same as an ez. my egt i had to watch towing as the eth trucks ran hotter. i used a pdr hx40 turbo to help with that and was happy towing. on the dyno that combo got me 380 rwhp 800 rwtq.

on a 99 i'd do a 60 to 75hp inj with a timing box and stock turbo and would be really happy.

still the stock HX35, with the a blocked wastegate, I think they call it a turbuckle mod. Good luck.

I was on the stock HY-35 turbo with a j-hook, 29lbs of boost. The HX-35 can go a few lbs more on boost and still be efficient, but I still wouldn't go much past a level 1 injector if you are going to tow 12k lbs. That is a lot to tow. If you want more power go with a light injector and a bigger "adjustable" box. That way you can turn it up for fun, and down to tow. I eventually dumped my VA for a Edge Comp and am much happier. I can still turn it down to tow and not worry about my EGTs.

Good advice, guys, thanks.

Hell, I'd be happy if I could hold 3rd at 55-60 mph in lock-up taking the long freeway grades. 12k is alot but with those 60-75 hp injectors, do you think they will solve my delima?

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

Muddy, do you know why the ETH trucks run hotter? Just curious.

Thx.

i dont know why the eth trucks ran that much hotter to be honest. 10 hp and 45 tq more than the etc trucks. not much more but sure a lot of heat. compresion ratio was differnt. programing of the stock ecm was different. injectors stock were actually slightly smaller.

i know that some had prefered to go the etc trucks for bombing due to less egt.

mikey, imo the approx 75 hp inj with a timing box would be best for your 99 for an all around towing rig with a stock hx35 keeping manageable egt. my combo on my 98.5 was just right for me.
