5.9L 24V Bombs (Aftermarket) Discussion of 24 Valve 5.9 Liter Dodge Cummins Diesels with VP44 Injection Pumps Related To Performance And Longevity

Its a 2000 5.9l 2wd. Its got a rebuilt tranny and has a new turbo and its got 250,xxx miles on it and i was just wondering what is the best chip or programmer for the 2nd generations 5.9's? Any info will be greatly appreciated. ... JOIN NOW TO REMOVE TRACER

Default My friends dad got a new truck

Its a 2000 5.9l 2wd. Its got a rebuilt tranny and has a new turbo and its got 250,xxx miles on it and i was just wondering what is the best chip or programmer for the 2nd generations 5.9's? Any info will be greatly appreciated. Thanks Jake

This is the shorthand version - because the injector pump (which costs well over a thousnd bucks) is lubed and cooled by the fuel. If you do not supply adequate fuel pressure and flow (from the lift pump), the injector pump will overheat and be damaged. That being said, the stock lift pumps in these trucks are junk. The first upgrade that needs to be done is a fuel pressure gauge and upgraded lift pump. Which costs around $600 if you do the work yourself.

bad lift pump, = lower pressure fuel to the VP44 (injection pump) which means the VP has to pull the fuel from in the tank... causing a early death of the VP = $1200 for a replacement.

I agree, FP guage (the great sponsers here on the site can hook you up in the "Request quote" area) then do the fueling box

Id say a Edge Drag comp... a lot of power and have been a proven reliable product.

With the Comp box, he will also need a pyrometer and boost guage.

yep rule #1 with a 2nd gen 24v is aftermarket lift pump and fuel pressure guage

Well i didnt know this about his truck but he told me it has a new performance lifter pump and delivery pressure module. Idk what brand they are but ill figure it out.
