Default My Opinions On The Smarty

I've been playin with a borrowed Smarty for a month or so now just to see how I liked it before I spent, what to me is big bucks to buy it. I just wanted to throw out my views on it being from a work truck perspective. So far most all the feedback has been from the wanna play hard crowd.

As far as daily driving, what can you say this thing is a blast. Stacked with my Comp on 5X5 it rocks. It cleaned up the smoke considerably and I finally have some serious getty up from the stop lights. Even with the Comp this truck was always a dog until you got it rollin. On the down side though, even though I know it's due to my own weakness fuel mileage has crashed. The overall average has been around 3 miles per gallon lower since installing this. I'm also not real impressed with the Pyro readings with my stock turbo. Typically give or take about 100 degrees higher across the board with the Smarty.

For pulling, this thing rocks. I turn the Comp off and the Smarty gives me all the low end torque I need to get heavy loads rolling with ease. Again the EGT's are a little higher then normal but for the amount of added low end power it's a worthy trade off.

So overall it's a cool play toy for the streets but I can't handle the decreased fuel mileage and if it's installed I'm gonna use it, that's just the way it is. So for me, for daily driving it has to go away. I would like to own one for use while pulling but being the tight wad I am with money the $500-$600 used price is to much, money for me to justify owning one. If you can afford it, I would recommend it in a heartbeat especially with a larger turbo. But alas, I'm a poor man tryin to live a rich man's dreams.

Glad you liked it. I traded mine because of it killing my truck on the low end with too much fuel....(done some xtreme mods latley) and even though my truck ran better w.o it.....I still wanted to keep it. I loved my smarty and am sad to this day without it. I always swore i'd never let it go and seeing how i did i'm not very happy with myself. again i wasnt even using it but it was just having it and what it is capable of doing for your truck was almost enough to hold to it for.

DM brings up a good point I missed. My use of this is on a 5 speed built manual tranny. I can see where these things could play hell on a tranny in a hurry if a guy wasn't keepin his foot in check or still using stock equipment.

I am running it on level 6 because for whatever reason in my truck I felt absolutely no difference in any of the lower levels. Once I downloaded number 6 you couldn't miss the difference though. I'm gonna play with level 8 on a few of the next trailer loads just to see what happens but I doubt that level will last to long with heat issues.

I got my tranny built to handle some hp but i think i may have even gone to far for what i got my trans built for. I am thinking of doing the manual conversion within the next month or so if not then as an 09 new year resolution. Anyone want a good price on a built up transmission with 2k on it?

I love my smarty. I stacked it with the edge juice and my adrenaline. For the most part I keep everything off and just run the smarty. It can definetly choke out an auto on the bottom but I spool pretty quick so it keeps me happy. I mainly bought mine for the ability to get rid of the TQ management but like I said it has taken over as my choice for daily driving.

Hey Uncle Bubba have you tried setting #1. That is the fuel saver setting. I know it's kind of a pain to have to reload it when you want to pull. Have you downloaded any of the new software yet to try

#1 Fuel Saver Mode, HAH. Who do you think your talkin to here. If I got it, I'm gonna use it on high. I have found a cable that I think will work to down load with. It fit's the hole right, just doesn't plug all the way into the hole. But no, I haven't had enough time to sit down and run the downloads yet. Been havin to check the site on the move here lately. Everybody wantin their houses worked on before winter here all the sudden.
