It will upshift, but it won't down shift. I have to unlock the T/C, turn O/D off on, then turn the T/C lock on again.

It can be, but I think the benefits outweigh the hassle.

The more time I spend with this automatic, the more I think the same could be said for shifting a manual.
I mean, I've always felt that way, but this is a plow truck and there aren't enough hands as it is. My cars have always been manual.

read the quotation in the original post for the 94 tranny.
no you wont hurt the tranny directly by doing this.... just if you use it improperly (if you have a stock tranny dont be locking it up in 2nd gear)

Default TC lock up

I like the switch, did it and it worked well.
But I didn't like the part of having to remember to shut it off before stopping.
So I designed an "auto-release" ..
when you step in the brake, it automatically shuts it off.
My truck is a 1996 ( 3-95 mfg ) But at some point, it had a 47RE trans installed. ( should have 47RH ? )
Here is a quick drawing.
I tested it, and it works super ,, so far..
I also have modified the "fog light switch" to momentary contact. ( next to the over drive button )
to use as the activate button. ( the activate button must be NO-momentary contact )
The safety switch is a double poll, single throw. ( 2 switches in one )
if you have questions your welcome to contact me via gmail.. kb7uxe.
Dan.

Hello from Dan.
I'm new to the Dodge cummins stuff as I finally acquired one.
I got started with the cummins by purchasing a motorhome with the 5.9 in it.
Lots of good stuff in these old posts..
The truck I bought from the neighbor down the road.
Runs great, just the lock up would only work when you are "hard on the throttle"
and unlocks as soon as you back off the throttle to cruise.
From what I can tell, my truck should have a 47RH trans in it (3 pin ) , but it has the 8 pin connector indicating it's an 47RE, ( later trans ? ) .. so I'm guessing at some point some one has transplanted a later model trans in it. Or possibly mounted an earlier cab on a later model chassis. although at this point I don't wish to dig too far into that can of worms as some time the less I know the better. :-)
it runs fine, comfortable to drive, and so far reliable.
has a straight pipe on it, stock air box, all else looks stock. it runs good and does seem
to rev much quicker than my motor home. not sure why..

It's supposed to unlock anytime there isn't a load on it. That's one of the nice things about a lockup switch, in that it gives you some engine braking. There are a number of reasons why it could rev quicker, but I'm not sure how different the 12V was that went into a 94 Winnebago.
