Default 95 5.9 in a Freightliner FL 70

Looking @ buying a 95 Freightliner FL70 with a 5.9 Cummins. The truck ways 12,000LBS and I want to tow 20,000 LBS. The cummins out put is 190 HP with only 31,000 miles.It has a 6 speed trans. What can do to it, a friend says a Bigger Turbo? Need some Help! Thanks

auto or manual? you can get a significant gain just with some pump tuning

A bigger turbo isnt going to do much for you unless you feed it more fuel. a bigger turbo is only part of the equation. More air + more fuel = more power.

This will be the true medium duty version of the engine. Does it have a P-7100 injector pump? If so, theres lots you can do but you also have to weigh the fact that you want to tow heavy - so you really cant go crazy with the modifications.

As long as it has a 12mm pump and not an 11mm like they put in buses.

Default How do you find the size of the injector pump

I just called Cummins it has a Bosch 7100 pump,yes. My friend has a Halset Turbo off a 6 liter with eletronic waste gate, can I use it? Thanks

Default 95 stock 5.9 w/31,000miles towing20,000lbs

Looking @ buying a 95 FL70 Freightliner with a 5.9 w/31,000 miles 6 speed trans. The truck weights 11,000LBS and will be towing 20,000LBS. Everything is stock on the Engine it has Bosch 7100 pump. My friend has a Halset Turbo off a 6 liter that has a electric waste gate can I use it ?
Do you guys have any good ideas for getting more Power. Thanks

If you are talking about an HE351 from a 6.7 Dodge, that would be a nice upgrade. Drawbacks are you would not have the variable vane exhaust brake function and it's a little tricky getting the wastegate to work without the Dodge electronics, but it can be done.

Need some help to get more power from a stock 95 5.9 with a Bosch 7100 injection pump.Looking at buying a 95 Freightliner with 31,000 miles with a stock 5.9 Cummins. A friend has a Turbo from a 6.7 that has a electric waste gate. Thanks
