So I have to say I'm a bit surprised by the responses to your post. I burned up my motor. I have a 5.9 cummins diesel in a 2007 dually megacab. Coming home from taking kids to the mountain, our cab began shaking violently whenever gas pedal compressed. We were out of cell range and after numerous attemps for help, decided to drive 30 miles. Our truck was also blowing blue smoke. We took it to the same shop that has been working on our truck for 2 years. They gave us the worst diagnosis possible. The valve seat (I believe #3) had dropped doing a huge amount of damage. Their original quote was $20,000-$25,000 to rebuild. Rebuild? I asked them. Seems like we could get a rebuilt motor for far less. Cummins direct wants $8300 for the motor plus a $3700 core fee. I just cannot believe this. We rebuilt a 454 gas motor for $3000 including all aspects of the rebuild like remove and reinstall. I realize diesels are more expensive but really? We use this truck in order to support our family so I really don't know what to do. I wish you luck and hope if you find any info, you will share with me.

Hi Heatherc23 you have responded to a post that dates back a long way most of the people are either long gone or don't visit the site very often. Run from the shop that gave you that quote there is one to many zeros in their figure . Seriously there are different avenues you could look at I see 2004.5 - 2007 5.9 Trucks that are wrecked and you can pick up a whole truck for 2-3K use what you need and scrap the rest. Or just pull yours and get an rebuilt from a good machine shop with a warranty for less than Cummins. If you need assistance we are all here to help! I live down in Georgia and there are Bombers all over the states that can point you in the right direction.
