Default low boost excessive smoke

"hi guys, ive got a 97 12 valve with #100 fuel plate, 4" exhaust, 16.5 timing, boost elbow, southbend dual disk, and complete guages. the truck makes good power and about 38 psi boost under full throttle. i would like to lower the smoke level under low boost conditions. would a afc spring kit help quite a bit? also i am looking at
the 3k spring kit to free up a few more rpms. any negative driving charastics with them? also with your experience what would be a good injector/ turbo combo to make 500 drivable horsepower. thats my ultimate goal. thanks

where's your star wheel at?if it's all the way foreward it will smoke alot under low boost conditions.

havent messed with the star wheel at all. im assuming that tighter lowers the fuel level at low boost?

correct if remember correctly toward the motor gives u more fuel.. i would slide the afc back a little.. it cleared up the exhaust on mine for my e-check.. i have a 100plate also, slid the afc back all the way and the plate slightly and i passed!!!! thank god the guy thought my muffler was a cat conveter!!!

toward the front of the truck, more fuel.try backing it off a little, you are not lowering the amount of fuel you're getting you're just not dumping so much at low boost.

yes. the plate is at full forward. the exhaust cleans up when boost pressure comes on.

ive been thinking of doing an injector upgrade. should i put in a less agressive fuel plate with a larger injector? was thinking a 75 horsepower dd injector. i know im going to need a turbo upgrade. the truck has 294,000 miles and im sure the factory injectors arn't quite up to par.

what kind of plate is it?if you will adjust that star wheel back it will make a big difference in the smoke pre-boost.
