Default 48RE trouble

The trans seems to be "stuck" in drive. Meaning, I can shift the gear selector to the different positions with no problems. The truck drives normal for the most part. No fluid has leaked and the level seems good and in good shape. There is no grinding or binding or banging. When I select Neutral the truck is still in gear, it still drives forward. When I select Reverse it rolls/drives into it then stops. I select Park and it does the same thing as Reverse. I can run thru the gears manually, D1, D2, D, and all seems OK. I haven't done any road testing with it since this started happening, just up and down the street in front of the house. It's a Garmon built trans with billet input shaft, laminated flex plate, upgraded VB and triple disk TC. The truck has 152K miles, the trans has 50K of that but not sure exactly since I bought it from a friend with a salvaged truck, but I don't think it had too many miles on it then.

I need to get this figured out soon. I was planning a trip up to Morgantown, WV and seeing some friends in MD.

Yea, I'd go with the linkage... We had the same issue too... just for ***** and giggles, see if you can get her into neutral while running and hot, and check the fluid again... How dirty is the ATF4?

Check the shifting cable mount to ensure it has not slipped out of its bracket.. It's located on the driver side of the tranny just before the cable enters the case.. It has two small tabs that hold it into the bracket and it can slip out at times allowing the cable sheath to move.. Also it could be the shift cable linkage bolt that connects the cable to the shifting shaft where it enters the tranny.. It's located just after the above mentioned cable mount..
