Default starting problem

I have an 06 cummins. The truck runs very well. It has about 74,000 miles on it. Got it in early feb of this year. For the first 2 weeks did not any problem starting. One day it started acting funny. I will turn the key to let the glow plugs heat up. When the light goes out I turn the key and it will start to crank. Heres where it gets weird. Sometimes it will start right up like is should. About 1 second or so. Other times I will let it crank for about 5 seconds and nothing. I will recycle the power and start the whole process over again. Then it will start up just fine. I can here the pump working everytime. Since then I have replaced the fuel filter. I have some ideas on what it might be. But want to get a little advice before I start chucking money at it. Thanks for the help.

is it really cold where you live? do you have a fuel pressure gauge? if so whats it saying during start up? also just a fyi not trying to be a dick cummins doesn't use glow plugs, the have grid heaters.

also do you have any mods, what are they. it would help if you fill in your sig.

No. I live in NM. I forgot to mention it before but it will also do it after its at running temp. I can shut it down and 5 min later it will do it again. I have a straight pipe on it. Thats it right now. deployed before I could do anything else to it. But it was doing it before and after that. I do not have a pressure gauge on it so i dont know. And thanks for the info about the grid heater.

i'd take it to the dealer and have them check for codes. maybe a bad grid heater relay. or a fuel issue.

I have a code reader and there are no codes popped. I will check all the other stuff you said. Thanks.

no problem. you might still wanna take it there. tell to check injectors, fuel pressure all that kind of stuff. i might be dead wrong but it kinda sounds like some type of fuel problem.
