03 To buy or not?
Hey guy's I'm looking at an 03 3500 Long Bed, Quad Cab with 298k 4x4, Bed is junk, but the rest of the body is in decent shape.
Guy's asking 6500, I offerd 5500
Tranny at 175k, fluid is a little dirty, smells ok. Shifts good, locks up nice and solid, dosent shuttle shift or shutter/slip
Never had a tuner, Current owner dosent know when the injectors have been replaced
New tires, new front end (bearings, u-joints, ball joints)
No abnormal noises during test drive, front and rear pinion seals are dry
Looks like it's left a couple little spots of oil on the driveway.
Transfer case works like it should.
Today it was about 45 Degrees out, Truck started right up, no lope, no smoke.
However, right after the test drive the current owner told me when it gets nice and cold say, below 30 with winchill, i.e around 25 or so. The truck will fire right up, then will die if you dont touch the throttle and hold it around 1200 rpm or so. It will then hold a nice idle and no smoke immediatly after.
A dodge tech at some local dealer said it is probibly the CPS.. No codes, and from my experience, woudlnt the truck just run like crap in general or not at all with a bad CPS?.... Could this be the start of injectors going south?
I've had a couple 24v VP44 trucks, so im not a stranger to the cummins motors or to diesels in general..... what do you guy's think, 5.5k a good deal? or should i just let this one go?
