I have had my 2005 Dodge Ram Diesel into a couple different dealers in the last 6 months. I have had the front crankshaft seal replaced 3 times, but yet it is still leaking oil. The leak intensifies as soon as I tow... Two of the dealers put dye in to see where it was leaking, and both said crank shaft seal and replaced it, the last time both the cover and the seal but STILL leaking. Frustrated and almost out of warranty at 89,000 miles. Ideas on why its leaking?? Truck seems to run well otherwise.

 

I dont know If a fluidampner would help out by cutting down on engine vibration I know they take alot more of the harmonics out of the engine then the factory one.

 

Sounds to me like the supposed mechanics are not installing the seal right. I would try to find another dealer. Or replace it yourself. The dye don't lie, where it shows up is where it is leaking at. Scott maybe on to something about the dampner.

 

And I would agree with HRD about the so called mechanics installing it wrong. Where abouts are you located?

 

Im in Washington State, know a decent dealership? Just cant help but think its building too much pressure and finding the weakest link to get out...

Another Dodge owner I talked to had a similar issue, it was a bad injector leaking fuel into the oil and thus there is too much liquid in the crankcase and it was leaking out of the blowby. ?? Thanks for your imput.

 

Have you checked your oil level? And where in washington do you live?

 

Oil level is fine. Dealer also indicated blow by was clean, but then again they said they knew how to replace a crank shaft seal. Only took them 3 weeks... Oh, Im in Sequim, Wa on the Olympic Peninsula

 

You could call DK Diesel they are on that side of the state. And they do good work there as well.... They do performance engine builds and trannies etc.

 

If the blow by isnt restricted, the engine is going to be properly vented and not cause it to be forced out anyplace.
