2007 5.9
Otherwise stock as far as I know--bought the truck @ auction a few months ago. Been noticing lately it smokes a good bit when you roll into the throttle on acceleration. Air filter is fine, fuel filter is fine, all the maintenance "stuff" is done. Kinda dumb when it comes to the CR engines...wondering if they exhibit a good bit of smoke in stock form, or if there's something I need to be looking for? By "a good bit" I mean it's enough for my 74 year old father to comment about how it looks like his old pumped up 444 Cummins....it's a cloud for sure. Is this normal? |

I wouldnt think that they should smoke much at all. The ones that I have seen around here dont smoke except for a slight haze and also my 02 24V all stock cept for 4" turbo back and a bhaf just puts out alittle haze too. You might have a intercooler boot leaking or something like that. And any codes?

Mine will toss out a decent cloud if I haven't leaned on it in a while and stand on it pretty good. Otherwise, its hardly noticable. If I do back to back pulls only the first one will leave a smog pattern.

I plan on doing a CAC leak test in the morning. Will report the results.

was it a re-po? maybe someone had a programmer on it and didn't get to remove it before it got gone..... or they put in aftermarket sticks after the stockers took a crap....
does it feel faster than any other commonrail you have driven?

My 06 would make a huge cloud of smoke when you got into it if it had been driven easy for a while before. I believe if you add the tube off the bottom of the airbox it will help with that. I never tried it on that truck, but had heard it would remedy the problem from others. My 03 does not smoke at all.

CAC leak test....held 41psi for 2 hours and didn't lose anything.
It's beginning to look like the 04.5 and up trucks are smokers out of the box. I will look into the airbox tube mod, thanks Matt! ![]() Of course this all depends....bought the truck for dad and he kinda likes the smoke now so WTF?
