Default Looking for some advice. Vp or Common-Rail

Just to start, I'm new to the whole common-rail scene. I've built a couple VP trucks in the past and finally decided to step up to a commin-rail. I'm beginning to get bored with my current setup so I've been looking to add a clutch, 90 hp DDP injector nozzles, and a bigger turbo. But, after talking to one the diesel shops in the area, I'm a little worried. From what he told me, the injectors in the common-rail trucks are notorious for going bad after 100k-125k miles and when you start turning them up that I could scar or melt a hole in the pistons. I believe he said that it was usually #5 or #6. Up to now, the truck has performed flawlessly. The truck has about 81k miles on it now. But... I've got this wicked itch for more power. My question is, should I just sell my truck and just buy another VP or P-pump truck to build up or am I just getting worried about nothing? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. My goal is around 500 hp.

go for it nothing to worry about the only way you will burn a hole in the piston if you add to much timing to it. 500hp is easy to get out of a common rail.

New injector tips usually solves alot of the injector related issues, you can upgrade the injector bodies too but they are expensive, and as long as you have an Air Dog or Fass with the filters on em that'll help out a ton, otherwise 500hp could be done on a stock charger on a Common rail, i bet you could even do 600 a couple times, but then is when you'd probably burn up the turbo, mine has hit 1600 a couple times for like 2 seconds, then i let off the go peddle, also another way to lower egt's is a bigger/better turbo setup more air to compensate for more fuel=lower egt's

Great news guys. What a relief. I REALLY like my truck. I'm gonna order the injector nozzles, a 5" exaust, and a heavier clutch to start off then . I think that I'm going to go with an ATS Aurora 4000 turbo with an ATS exaust manifold in a month or so when I get a little more money saved up.
