I have a 2003 TD and am getting ready to change the water pump. This is the second time I've done so.

There seem to be two styles of water pump for these Cummins engines. One has shrouded impeller fins and the other does NOT have the impeller fins shrouded. I was told by the MOPAR hot line that the part numbers for both are now under the same reference and that both pumps are acceptable.

Supposedly, the shrouded pump was done away with in 2002, but my 2003 came with one. My first replacement pump also had the shrouded impeller fins but the new one I just got does NOT have the shrouded fins.

Are both of these pumps really compatible or does the HO designation on my engine make a difference?

Actually, I've been on this site for some years under two different names:

I had a non shrouded on my 2003, not sure if it was original or not, I now have a shrouded, and don't notice a difference.

 

Hmmmmm..... Does it matter if the TD is the HO version or are they all the same now? Mine is the HO for what it's worth.
