Default 7.3 powerstroke or 5.9 cummins?

Hey guys,

New to the forums so im sorry if im steppin on any toes by posting this here.

Currently I am driving a 2001 f250 7.3 with about 65k on the odometer. I love the truck but something about the cummins really catches my eye. I happen to be vit ry close with someone who owns a 2007 2500 with about 90k that is pretty comparable. and It just so happens he is looking for a 7.3 powerstroke.

Ive been doing some searches and I cant seem to find any real common problems that are consistant with these trucks other then replacing some front axle components.. Hopefully some people can chime in here and help me out with their opinions and experiences.

How are the auto trannys? How much will they hold up to before needing built?

Thanks a lot

Trans really should be built before adding any power.

Probably gonna need injectors, if they haven't already been done. My brother in law just bought a '07 Mega Cab with a 5.9, lost an injector @ 106K, had to do a complete build and bore it .020 over. It was a common problem with '03-'07 5.9's. Keep the stroker, it's not even broken in!

7.3 was a good motor! but fuel milage really sucks!
5.9 stands alone when it comes to power and milage!
dodge tranny once built is pretty bullet proof, with a few upgrades to the fuel system and a good programmer like UDC the answer is obvious. Yes injectors go bad and melt pistons but keeping on top of small issues before they get big is key!
