Default Lugging a diesel

Now I was told that it is bad to lug a diesel.

Is this true?

I get my manual down to 1k and it sounds fine. When I go any lower (7-800 rpm) then it sounds to low by me.

Soot when lugging could be an issue, but i dont see an issue beyond that. Soot is no good for an egr, cooler and a VGT.

to bad his truck doesnt have a vgt turbo or an egr.... its fine to lug it once in awhile but not all the time, just putting strain on the motor

If you have Pyro guage you can watch it when your lugging so you wont let it get in the danger zone

So is the EGTs the main reason not to lug the motor?

Do you feel that a RPM drop down to 1 to 1.5k is reasonable to be at while shifting (empty truck town driving)

I will be getting gauges of some sort (mech. or programer type) but need to know if I should change my drive style. Remember guys, this is my first diesel and I am just learning the ropes...
