Default my 1st oil change

i bought a 2001 Dodge 2500 and was going to do the first oil change. the previous owner said he used Rotella engine oil. after looking around on the forum, it seems that Amsoil seems to be a favorite. can i make the switch to a synthetic oil after 11 years and117k miles?

117k on a Cummins is just a baby, go with the amsoil full-syn... alot of guys run it, myself included, it is the best oil out there it's just damn expensive.

I run Rotella. Great stuff, not to expensive. Find it anywhere... Big R's got my vote...

i'm willing to spend a little more, to better protect my truck. i thought it wasnt good to switch to synthetic once the engine is a little older. i would like to switch to synthetic but only if it won't harm my engine

you can run a cheaper synthetic too like valvoline, poses no danger to convert but once you do there's no going back..

Rotella has worked great for many years but if you insist on spending big on oil go for the syn.

You can go back and forth between synthetics and conventional oil as much as you want. Amsoil is good stuff but unless your running long OCI's IMHO your wasting your money.
