Default scanner?

What is the best scanner tool or program for the buck? I need to find one that will work on my cummins and my powerstrokes. I don't want to take out a mortgage for it either.

Any vehicle 1996 has OBD II. There are no key tricks, any scanner will be able to pull the code set in your computer.

but what about the CAN codes in the abs system? I have had an abs and brake light on since I bought the truck. the abs is not retrievable with just an obdII scanner

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

not only the abs, but I have a lot of questions about what is going on inside the pcm parameters, such as fueling % and timing. yes I know I have a smarty, but I want to know more... knowledge is power.

A regular scanner cant read an ABS code. You would need an ABS scanner. Your gonna have to spend some coin to get one that does all of that unfortunately
