Default Brakes???

Anyone have any suggestions for upgrading the brakes on a 1998.5 cummins? I've already put some slotted and drilled rotors, with ebc pads. Would love to lose the drums in the back, but not wanting to spend a ton of $$$. Was reading something about upgrading the wheel cylinders to GMC 1 tons. Any thoughts???

you could do that. there isn't much room for improvement in braking on these trucks cheaply that i know of. pure diesel power has a proportioning valve delete which says will offer better braking, though the valve is there to adjust the rear braking in reflect of load on the back or in the bed. you could look into that

Default Dodge rear breaks

I also read on a diesel forum but can't remember which one, about the Chevy one ton wheel cylinders replaceing the dodge wheel cylinders. If you find the article please pm me with the info.

Default Rear Disc

I'd look for an rear axle of out an 01.5-02 with the discs. I got one with a locker in it for $500. The truck stops much better. The other thing I found was the front rotors are ~$95 because they have the hub assembly (2wd) while the 01.5-02s have the same rotor as 4wd that costs ~$50. if you search CL from SearchTempest - The EASY way to search Craigslist you can see results from multiple cities. A junk yard would probably want a ton, but you could check. The bolt holes on the axles are the same so you could just get the disc brakes w/o buying the axle if they will let you.

If you get 17" Rims, you can upgrade to the larger 3rd gen front brakes as well.
