Default transmission issue...

Trans mission is getting hot 200-220 while just driving around for 10-20 minutes, I havent driven it further at any temp higher. I pull over and let it idle until the trans drops below 180 and go again to get home. Not pulling a trailer, Smarty set to stock. Trans pulls good and shifts fine as long as the fluid temps are cool. I dropped the pan, changed filter, and gasket. refilled with ATF+4. The previous owner bought the transmission from goerand and installed it himself. The cooler seems to flow fluid fine, The cooler lines are not leaking.

Trans temp was about 220 and the motor will pull away from the trans if you give it 1/2 to 3/4 throttle. I only did it once, then saw the temp and pulled over and let it cool.

Any advice? Thoughts? Ideas?

I would call Goerend and ask them.

Ok, talked with goerand and they suggested a couple things, found no change. I took it by a local trans shop and they found these codes and said they were affecting the trans.

trans-
1694- no ENG bus message recieved
1594- charge system volt low
0122- tps volt low

eng-
0602- ecm fueling cal error

I know that the previous owner cut the harness and put in an AUX voltage regulator. Any clue on what needs to be done to fix this? I assume it all has to do with the aux voltage regulator and now the lights all surge while idling. The truck has a new alternator and ECM put in it before the regulator got wired in like it is.

Okay, I waited to post a response to this after finding and repairing the issue to make certain that it was resolved.

Turns out whoever installed the Voltage regulator used a "communication" wire to the transmission as a Keyed source wire and this was causing all the trans codes and some shifting issues. After that was resolved, found the Smarty wouldn't program the ECm and when it would error out and "return" back to a factory setting. There was something fouled in the "factory" setting and not locking the trans and it affected the shifting gate points.

Had a local electrical shop doing the rewire, to flash an updated stock flash to the ECM and all is well, I still need to update the smarty box or there is no sense in having it. I hope this helps someone else finding themselves in my shoes.
