Default power steering pump.

So i take my truck to the shop and they tell me the power steering pump is leaking. So i tell em to replace it and they seem to be confused cause the fuel pump runs off it or something? Seems to be throwing them for a loop? Is this normal on a 2001 5.9 24 valve? any help would be appreciated.Really makes me feel good about the shop that there calling me and telling me this?

It is probably your vaccum pump that is leaking. It is connected to your power steering pump. Have you noticed any oil that is dripping under the truck? Gould Gear makes a repair kit for it, and they also have a very good video that shows you how to do it.

X2 on the vacuum pump. My truck only has 61,000 miles on it and the vacuum pump is leaking pretty good. Like brennan said, the power steering pump is driven through the vacuum pump, the injection pump is not driven off of either.

I agree that it is probably the seal on the through shaft of the Vac pump.

I've never seen a fuel pump run off the Vac pump, but the power steering is right behind it.

GOULD GEAR & ELECTRIC Here is the link to the repair kit that I used. It took me about an hour and a half to do it. The hardest part is getting the nut off towards the engine. The video that comes with it walks you through every step.
