Steering brace/ Snowplow mount
irecently pruchased a steering brace for my 01 ram 2500 that has a western Ultra mount on it.These unitsare capable of working on trucks with plow mounts, however with modifacations. I removed the bearing support plate from the square tube with my plasma cutter with a gouge tip. Then I welded a 5/16 thick plate on the square tube, thenwelded the bearing support plate back on where it came from.I cut a template out ofcardboard of the bearing plate at the square tube beforeI cut it off to give me the location.I also had to notch thetabs at the square tube a little to clear the plow mounts by the swaybar mount.the reason for shimming the bearing plate is to allow the swaybar to fit in the brce, the plow mount thickness made it interfere. The bearing lock set screws, just fit in the pitnam extend nut,but ok. also you need 70 mm long bolts for the sway bar too. I used never seize on ALL hardware.I purchased this from Custom Diesel,I also called the owner John & told him what I did.He was very receptive to this and may start to modify for people who have plows & would like to installthese. Mind you what I did was for a western, not sure for other brands. Justan idea I had & it worked, truck is tighter due to the pitnam shaft "flex". Hope this helps others,JOHN
