2000 24v 450hp truth or bs
OK, dont you hate it when u can tell someone is trying to compete with you but they have no idea what theyre talking about. An ASSOCIATE not friend of mine traded his 02 dakota sxt which was a descent truck for a 2000 5.9 24v 5spd. This truck has 245000 mi ,supposibly 140 hp injectors and an edge evo chip. It has dual stacks tht where rigged into the bed, dents and rust from head to toe, was previously in a front in collision. The previous owner tore the sh.t out of this truck. It blows black smoke that smells like antifreze, but still black smoke, he doesnt realize the cons to black smoke and constantly rolls around with the chip maxed out. But he told me 450 hp? He doesnt even have an egt guage. I told him staight up his cylinders must be on fire haha. Its the vp44 or sometin like tht without the common rail. I have an old 95 12valve i no it gets no where close to tht but im not greatly educated in cummins since my whole family drives psd and have some cummins farm trucks. Anyways anyone out there please let me no i wouldnt doubt with a well maintained 24v tht wasnt torn to crap cpuold definatly surpass 450 but what do u think about what i was told with most of the listed problems and most likely unknown proplems.

well, I can say this, I'm making a dyno proven 467 hp and 1158 ft lbs on the stock turbo through my 5spd on 99 24valve, so its possible, hot, heck yes, advisable, no. If its smelling like anti-freeze, that is a big issue, either headgasket or burnt piston or cracked block/head. The injectors and that chip combined, I'd guess, maybe 350-400 at the rear wheels, less if its an auto as you can lose 30% of your power through an auto easy. base line on the 24valve with an auto, bone stock actual numbers tested on a dyno, 168hp, 335 ft lbs, manual=192 hp and 405 ft lbs. again dyno proven. those injectors probably net him 90 -110 tops, chips maybe 50-100, im not to familar with the EVO chip personally so I'm not sure what its rated at off the top of my head, but in simple language, tell him to stop adding what the advertiser claim he'll get, he'll be lucky to get closer to the advertised power in my opinion

hes not even adding what the companys advertise hes advertising what the guy he traded his old rig for told him. I guarentee u tht you take damn well of yr rig right. You dont drive it to **** or drive around everyday all day with the chip on high so u can see cool clouds of yr money go out the tailpipe right. And also would u think there could be any chance of cavitation in the cylinders cause i guarentee he runnin 1500 egt temp all day not even noing it

like i said dont think hes ever drove a manual diesel, hes used to the auto dakota. I think the only stick hes drivin was a 70s vette, but claims to used to have a 04 7.3 psd 5spd back at his home in montana, haha i told him 04 7.3 musta been a bitch convetin it! I bet he was wonderin why i laughted at him when he said that. But still with these 24v is there any chances of cavitation with egts at or over 1500?
