When I bought my truck, the supply fuel pressure was crap, and would drop to 0 with the hammer down and Edge Juice w/Attitude on Lv.3. I quickly remidied the low fuel pressure issue, but find that even with the chip on 5, I am low on power. One of my co-workers has a '00 2500 with 5.9L and 5 speed manual. He can blow my doors off, produce more boost, and trails more smoke than I ever can. Only difference between trucks, he has an AFE stage 2. To even things up, I pulled my filter right out, and still no difference. I am aware the 5-speeds can with a pump rated 10 horse more.
Another co-worker had a '00 with an auto trans, and after he test drove mine, he figures there may be pump issues as well. I have a feeling that my pump may have been "damaged", although in my experience with heavy equipment, VP44's either work, or they don't. Before throwing money at a new pump, I want to exercise ALL options. So far I have double checked all wiring involving the Edge, changed fuel filters over and over, pulled air filter and swapped EDGE box's with co-worker, and none of these have changed the situation. Any advise would be helpful, thanks. |

well what you shoudl have a is a fuel pressure guage a manual one they are more accurate and also u should have an fass 150 or air dog 150 supplying fuel to your injefctor pump u wil have 18 psi fuel pressure with the throttle to the floor u neeed that constan volume to suply the pump

There are no codes, at least none that my code reader has picked up. I have not had the chance to put a scanner on it at this time. I agree a mechanical, more accurate gauge plumbed in is a good idea, and will be doing that this weekend when I have more shop time. I have lots of fuel pressure, according to the Edge display, only drops to 17 PSI on level 5, with my foot to the floor. I also plan on flow rating my supply system, just to double check.

The Edge gauge is plenty accurate. I have an Autometer and its identical to a liquid filled test gauge.
Have you cleaned all your sensors? Adjusted the APPS? Is your trans slipping? |

The trans better not be slipping, it only has 60,000 Kms since rebuild, has a stage 2 shift kit, and a tripple billet TQ. I have not adjusted the APPS, but have checked it with a multi-meter, and it is to spec. Sensor cleaning will be conducted this weekend as well.

Its possible the VP is a little scored or something, but I'd be looking elsewhere in the system. Where are you reading the FP from? And, what lift pump are you running? You could be sucking air somewhere, and while the system is still pressurized, its half air, understand what I'm saying?

I have thought of air being in the system as well, but I have no surging, hard starts, or other air related symptoms. Fuel Pressure is read from the banjo bolt on the VP44 from the fuel filter, essentially directly on the VP.

I know, I know, I KNOW!!!! "Get a FASS or a AirDog", but they ain't cheap. I have the factory "upgrade" pump in the tank, and a Car Quest jobber pump on the block, hooked in series. The pump in the tank is powered by a relay, energized by the factory wire harness. I then built a 3 way wire harness to energize the relay, and power the pump on the block. Together they make 29PSI at idle, and never under 16PSI @ WOT, Edge Attitude w/juice on 5. I am not ruling out the possibility that improper fuel conditions are being delivered to the VP44, but have 16PSI at WOT is a good sign of enough fuel. UNLESS, my pressure gauge is reading incorrectly. This weekend I will test it against a mechanical gauge, among other tests.

you have too much pressure at idle and that can kill the pump. You could also be losing injectors. Had a buddy with an 00 lost vp replaced it put a juice with attitude on lost power and mileage put new injectors in and everything was back to normal well actually better than before he put in rv 275's but it picked up the mileage above what he had before the vp and edge

I am looking to get those DDP 110's from the guy you know. Waiting for any new news on them. I am not too sure on the theory of too much pressure killing the pump. I can understand blowing a seal or something like that.

I can understand too much like 40 PSI +, but have not heard personally any damage from too much like 30 PSI. So far, the difference between having just the pump in the tank and hitting as low as 1PSI, and having both at 30PSI, the combo performs much better. Time will bring a quality pump, FASS/AirDog, when the economy picks up!!
